Just curious....

Since I haven't seen any comments on Catnipped or Velius' blog about PAX, I was just wondering where everyone stands on it. Right now, I looked up plane ticket prices for that weekend, but they still seem a bit high at the moment (almost double what I paid to go to Houston -_-), but I'll keep a close eye on it. I have nothing planned so far for that particular weekend, so if the right ticket price comes along and I have nothing new planned, I'll most likely go up.

Faults, Double Faults, but still a good day

The weather's been getting warmer here in the Buckeye state, and my friend Conquistador called me up and we decided to hit the tennis courts for the first time this year. Unfortunately at first, a bunch of other people had the same thought as us, and the courts were all filled by the time Conquistador and I got there. Now, I'm all for people learning tennis and picking up the game, but when you watch a lot of noobies and beginners play, you realize that they really don't expend a lot of energy. It usually goes...

1. Person on one side feeds the ball.
2. Person on other side launches ball out/into net
3. If person feeding the ball has another ball, go to step 1, otherwise go to step 4
4. Collect balls up.
5. Return to step 1.

And then sometimes the pair sits down at the benches to you make you think that oh, they must be done. But no! They take a swig of their bottled water, chat a bit, and then walk back slowly onto the court. Fortunately, our display of patience eventually paid off and we got a court. Our first few shots were really bad, but we laughed it off and eventually worked ourselves into playing a set, which was ugly since I probably had a bagillion double faults but somehow managed to still pull it out 6-4 :P The highlight of the set was a mishit winner I hit (basically I framed the ball on my racquet) which I thought was going out, but a group of 6 or 7 people waiting for a court but watching the match between Conquistador and me exclaimed a collective "woah" as the ball bounced in :) That made the wait all worthwhile :)

Buckeye Basketball is hazardous to your health...

Man...this year's Buckeye basketball team has been giving fans near heart-attacks in the last 2 NCAA tournament games, but the team still manages to find a way to win. There's been a lot of talk about Greg Oden and his ability to dominate, but senior Ron Lewis has been coming up huge in hitting the game tying 3 pointer versus Xavier and leading the run in the 2nd half versus Tennessee. Although the basketball team has been pulling out these wins, I'm hoping they can make it a more comfortable win in the next round versus Memphis to make it to the final 4, but I guess they don't call this tournament March Madneses for nothing :P

March Madness has begun!

(*Dick Vitale*) It's showtime baby! Time for the diaper dandy's and the PTPers to step up their game for sport's biggest dance of the year! (/*Dick Vitale*)

There weren't too many surprises in the first around, although it wasn't a good time to be a Blue Devil. Central Connecticut ran into a buzz saw as the Buckeyes shot 52 from the field and 55% from 3 on their way to a 21 point win. And meanwhile, the Dukies ran into a tough-nosed VCU team that wouldn't go away as VCU kicked and clawed their way back from an early 13 point deficit with 3 point shooting and full court presses to a 2 point win. So far, I've missed 2 to 3 picks depending on the bracket (my misses were Texas Tech over BC, Gonzaga over Indiana, and George Washington over Vanderbilt), but it's been enough to either tie for the lead or for 2nd place in the pools I've been in. So far, there haven't been any super huge upsets (VCU over Duke might have been an upset, but the Dukies haven't been play that well this year as they came into the tournament with 3 straight losses), and I feel this year that most of the higher seeds will likely come through. But we'll see if anyone will pull a George Mason...

Time to fire up Quake...

Looks like playing video games might be healthy for something :) Although, it hasn't reduced my eye prescription...

*Shakes head*

After watching American Idol last night and then checking the DialIdol results this morning, these predictions make me a sad panda -_- For those who haven't been watching, Sanjaya's singing ability has been outclassed by almost all of his peers every night (and the talent of the guys this year is fairly low), yet he's managed to stay in the competition -_- There've been comparisons drawn to him and Kevin Covais (as some people thought Kevin shouldn't have gone as far as he did), but I think that would be an insult to Kevin since he actually sang pretty decently in season 5. Oh well...just wanted to rant this morning -_-

Update: Well, it looks like Sanjaya was actually in the bottom three despite what DialIdol said. The show had it down to Sanjaya and Haley after singling out two other boys who were in the bottom 3, and I thought "well, there goes Haley..." But no, Sanjaya's named was called! Unfortuantely, it was only a tease for complainers like me as still Sanjaya managed to hang around for one more week -_-

March Tournament

Sports fans know that the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament is coming up, but this is more of my kind of March Madness :P I didn't hear about this till this afternoon today, so I don't know if I'll be able to register, but I sent an email and I'm crossing my fingers to see if they'll let me participate...

Update: Looks like I'm #7 on the waiting list, which might not be a bad sign since 7 is my favorite number :P I guess I'll find out when I get there...

Update 2: I got into the main draw, but I lost in the 2nd round by 2000 points on Heart Shaped Box. I was sort of sleepwalking through the song in the beginning and made some dumb mistakes, and the other guy was basically ahead the entire time, but I made a major comeback near the end of the song as the guy made a mistake and I was able to capitalize on the 4x and 8x bonus on the triple notes. But my rally fell short as I made a sleepy error at the end that probably cost me the win. But man, people that came to the tournament were real serious as some of them even brought their own guitar from home to use, and there were some people that were really good as well, so I probably would have gone home eventually. Ah well, not too bad for not playing GH2 for about a month :P
